About DOW files

A .dow file is most commonly a proprietary measurement data file generated by Anton Paar rheometers, specifically from software like RheoCompass or the legacy RHEOPLUS. These files contain complex rheological data (viscosity, flow stress) stored in a binary format that standard spreadsheet software cannot read directly. This creates a significant bottleneck for scientists who need to analyze raw data in Microsoft Excel or plotting software like Origin.

Alternatively, in the simulation industry, a .dow file may represent a Degrees of Freedom (DOF) hierarchy definition used by Presagis Creator (formerly MultiGen-Paradigm). These legacy 3D files define how objects move and articulate within a scene but are incompatible with modern tools like Blender or Maya. Additionally, some PC games mask standard Ogg Vorbis audio files with a .dow extension to obfuscate assets.

Because these formats are either proprietary or disguised, users often struggle to simply "open" them.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DOW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PTS, MCC and VIS files.

The DOW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DOW converter.
