The .DLT file extension primarily acts as a Diagnostic Log and Trace file. This format standardizes logs generated by automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs) running AUTOSAR or GENIVI software. Engineers use tools like DLT-Viewer to analyze system behavior, network messaging, and diagnostic events. Secondary uses include plugin files for Autodesk 3ds Max (storing executable code for 3D modeling), credit bureau data submissions for I-Score, and bank transaction histories from Bank of China or ICBC online banking.
Users frequently need to convert .DLT files because the original automotive logs are stored in a dense, binary-encoded format. Standard text editors like Notepad cannot open them directly without returning scrambled characters. This creates an immediate problem when sharing log snippets with external teams or loading data into standard spreadsheet tools for analysis.
