About DKB files

The .DKB file extension is highly fragmented, serving three entirely different purposes. Most commonly, it is a renamed JPEG image used by Drakkar backup software, legacy Kodak systems, or early versions of Adobe Photoshop. Alternatively, it functions as an encrypted ZIP archive created by the malicious Donkey-Kong Ransomware. Finally, it can be a decision support knowledge base used by the proprietary Doctus software. Users struggle with .DKB files because the extension actively masks the true data type. If the file is an image, the incorrect extension prevents web browsers and standard image viewers from loading it. If it is a ransomware file, the data is locked inside a standard ZIP container using strong cryptography, making conventional access impossible without a decryption key. The Doctus knowledge base format is completely closed, proprietary, and requires a paid software license to interpret its logical rules. If your file is a misplaced image, the best solution is converting or renaming it to a standard JPG. For encrypted archives, restoring them to standard ZIP requires specialized decryption tools. Because .DKB files lack a single, unified file structure, generic online converters immediately fail to process them. They rely on the file extension rather than the actual file signature. Drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our system will inspect the raw file signature. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format like a JPEG or ZIP header, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DKB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZIP, PAK and ATX files.

The DKB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP.
