Alternatively, it is utilized as a DUNE Grid Format file for defining 3D meshes in finite-element scientific simulations, or as an XML-based vehicle diagnostic log from Ford and Snap-on tools.
Label files are created and opened exclusively with Formtec Design Pro, while grid files are typically parsed by open-source libraries like DuMuX or Python's meshio.
The major frustration with Formtec .dgf files is their heavily locked-down, proprietary binary nature. You cannot natively open them in standard design software like Adobe Illustrator or view them in a web browser. If you switch to a Mac or move away from Formtec, your label layouts become entirely inaccessible.
To share or print these labels reliably, converting the file to PDF or JPG is highly recommended. For DUNE mesh grids, converting to MSH or VTK formats ensures compatibility with modern 3D visualization tools.
