The most common modern iteration is a Call Log Backup created by the Call Log Monitor app for Android. These files are actually disguised ZIP archives containing your call history in structured formats like CSV or XML. Users typically encounter friction here because the operating system does not recognize the extension, leaving them unable to view their data on a PC without manually renaming the file or using specific archival software like 7-Zip.
Historically, .DEP files served as Dependency Information Files generated by Microsoft Visual Basic (versions 6.0 and earlier).
