About DDJ files

The .ddj file extension is primarily used as a proprietary game texture image file. It is most commonly found in classic MMORPGs developed by Joymax, such as Silkroad Online, and occasionally in games like Dragon Oath. These files are used by the game engine to store 3D character skins, environmental textures, weapons, and user interface elements.

Under the hood, a .ddj file usually acts as a customized container for a DXT Compressed Bitmap Image. This makes it functionally identical to a standard DDS (DirectDraw Surface) file used by Nvidia and modern DirectX applications. However, the core disadvantage of the .ddj format is its proprietary nature. The game developers intentionally modified the file header to prevent players from easily ripping, viewing, or altering the game assets. Because of this custom header, standard image viewers and professional graphic design software cannot open the files natively.

To view or edit these textures, users must convert the .ddj file into a standard format. Converting to DDS is highly recommended for modders because it preserves the original DXT compression and mipmaps. For general viewing or editing in software like Adobe Photoshop, converting to PNG or TGA is the best choice, though you will lose the hardware-specific texture compression.

Because this is a closed, proprietary game format, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Standard tools simply cannot read the altered header to extract the image data. Our system will analyze the file structure and inspect its internal binary data. If our analysis successfully detects the underlying standard DXT or DDS stream past the custom header, viewing or converting the texture to common image formats may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DDJ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DDS, PNG, PK2, B6I and SA files.
