About PK2 files
The .PK2 file extension is primarily associated with the Joymax File Manager, a proprietary virtual file system used by the MMORPG Silkroad Online. These files function as massive, encrypted containers (often several gigabytes in size) that store the game's essential assets, including DDJ textures, MP3 audio, character models, and interface scripts.
For most users, the need to convert a .PK2 file arises from a desire to customize the game client (modding) or extract assets for creative use. However, because the format uses a custom Blowfish-like encryption algorithm, you cannot simply double-click to open it, nor can you convert the entire archive into a standard ZIP or RAR file using typical archivers like WinRAR. Attempting to open these in a text editor will result in garbled binary data.
To access the contents, you must use specific extraction tools designed for the Joymax engine. Once extracted, the internal files often require a secondary conversion step - for example, converting proprietary DDJ images to standard JPG or PNG for editing in Adobe Photoshop.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PK2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PK2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PK2 converter.
