About DD2 files
A .DD2 file functions primarily as an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) document formatted to the Data Distribution Version 2 standard. It is heavily utilized in retail and supply chain management to automate invoice processing, inventory updates, and stock control. Point of Sale (POS) systems automatically ingest these files into their databases. Alternatively, a smaller percentage of .DD2 files are generated by VEDA4 software for computational chemistry. In this niche, the file stores delocalized internal coordinates extracted from Gaussian output logs to analyze molecular vibrational energy.
The main disadvantage of the .DD2 format is its nature as a raw, machine-readable data container. When a business owner receives a .DD2 invoice via email, they cannot view the unit costs, barcodes, or stock codes without specialized ERP or POS software. It is strictly structured for database ingestion, making it useless for quick human review. Similarly, scientists struggle to parse the stretching, bending, and torsion angles in VEDA4 outputs outside of the original, highly specific software environment.
To make the data accessible, converting the EDI invoice to CSV or XLSX is the most pragmatic solution. This allows you to immediately analyze pricing and stock levels in Microsoft Excel. For accounting and archiving, converting it to a PDF document provides a traditional, printable invoice layout. For scientific users, converting the file to standard TXT or LOG formats ensures the coordinates and matrices can be easily tabulated for research papers without losing structural integrity.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it relies on highly specialized, proprietary data structures. Often, only the original POS software or VEDA4 environment can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible. Drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DD2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DD2 file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use VEDA4 or POS Systems or similar software from the "EDI Invoice & Science Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to DD2, try VEDA4 or POS Systems or another comparable tool in the "EDI Invoice & Science Data" category.
The DD2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DD2 converter.
