The .DAM file extension represents a Yokogawa Manual Sample Data file, a proprietary binary format generated by Yokogawa paperless recorders (such as the DX, GX, and GP series). Unlike standard text logs, these files store high-precision sensor readings (temperature, pressure, flow) recorded via manual triggers or specific event logic.
Engineers often struggle with .DAM files because they are unreadable by standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. The data is locked inside a binary structure that requires the manufacturer's specific Universal Viewer or DAQStandard software to interpret. This can be a major source of frustration when trying to share process data with clients or analyze trends outside the factory floor environment.
