The .czip extension is a chameleon, serving three distinct and incompatible purposes, which often leads to user confusion. For professionals in architecture and construction, this file is most likely a Trimble Connect project archive. These are essentially packaged ZIP containers holding IFC models, drawings, and project metadata. The friction arises because standard operating systems do not treat .czip as a compressed folder by default, requiring specific software like Trimble Connect to open, or a manual workaround to access the data.
Alternatively, legacy users may encounter .czip files created by ZipGenius. These are CryptoZip archives, a proprietary encrypted format designed to secure sensitive data. Unlike standard zips, these cannot be opened without the specific decryption algorithms found in the original software, creating a "digital lock-in" scenario if the software is discontinued.
