About CXI files

A .CXI file is primarily associated with Coherent X-ray Imaging, acting as a specialized container for storing experimental data from X-ray free-electron lasers. These files are built upon the robust HDF5 (Hierarchical Data Format version 5) standard, allowing them to store massive multidimensional arrays of scientific data. While powerful for research, this format presents significant friction for general use: it requires specialized software like HDFView or Python libraries (h5py) to interpret, and file sizes often exceed several gigabytes, making them unwieldy for email or quick viewing. Users frequently need to convert these complex datasets into simpler formats like CSV or XLSX for analysis in Microsoft Excel or MAT for processing in MATLAB.

However, the extension is ambiguous. A .CXI file may alternatively be a Nintendo 3DS Executable used by emulators such as Citra to run console games on a PC. These binary files are locked to the emulator environment and cannot be standardly "converted" to documents, though users often look to extract assets. Less commonly, it may be a flowchart diagram created by Flowgorithm or ConceptDraw DIAGRAM. For these diagram files, users often struggle with the proprietary XML structure and need to convert them to PDF, JPG, or SVG for sharing with colleagues who lack the original design software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CXI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted 3DS, CCI, CIA, LOG, 7Z, XCI, ZIP, RNQS, NDS, NSP, AZW3, PDF and WEBP files.

FAQ

If you want to convert CXI file to CIA, 3DS, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP or MAP, you can use HDFView or similar software from the "Scientific Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to CXI, try HDFView or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Data Storage" category.

The CXI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CXI converter.
