Convert CXI to another file type
To convert CXI files to another format, you need HDFView or other Data software.
Convert a file to CXI
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Imaging & ROM" file type, you need software like HDFView or a similar tool.
About CXI files
The .CXI extension is shared by three vastly different formats: Coherent X-ray Imaging datasets (based on HDF5), Nintendo 3DS executable ROMs, and Flowgorithm flowchart diagrams. Scientific .CXI files store massive arrays of X-ray diffraction data and are primarily opened using HDFView or Python scripts. Nintendo 3DS .CXI files contain compiled game assets and executable code, typically played via the Citra Emulator. Finally, flowchart .CXI files use an XML structure to store logic diagrams.
The major disadvantage of the .CXI format is its extreme fragmentation. A 3DS ROM is useless to a scientist, and an X-ray dataset will instantly crash an emulator. Furthermore, scientific .CXI files are often hundreds of gigabytes in size, require specific Python libraries (like h5py) to parse, and cannot be previewed in web browsers. 3DS files are proprietary binaries that require dedicated console decryption to be usable.
Target formats depend entirely on the source file. Scientific .CXI files are best converted to CSV or JSON for broad data analysis. 3DS executables are usually converted to CIA to install on custom firmware. Flowgorithm diagrams should be exported to PDF or PNG for easy sharing.
Because two of these formats are complex binary structures, standard online converters fail completely. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our analysis engine can inspect the file header, determine if it is HDF5, XML, or a binary executable, and show underlying text or content.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CXI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CXI file to CIA, 3DS, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP or MAP, you can use HDFView or similar software from the "Scientific Data & Game Executable" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to CXI, try HDFView or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Data & Game Executable" category.
The CXI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CXI converter.
