A .CW file generally serves as a proprietary project container. Most commonly, it stores a business card layout created in AMS Business Card Maker or NCH CardWorks. Alternatively, it acts as a saved world state or map data file for voxel-based games like Cube World and ClassiCube.
A key limitation of a .CW business card file is that it is not a standard image. It is a closed workspace containing text layers, layout coordinates, and linked graphics. You cannot send a .CW file to a commercial printer, nor can you open it in standard web browsers or image editors like Adobe Photoshop. Game world .CW files face similar isolation; they are deeply tied to the specific game engine's logic and are typically encoded with GZIP compression.
To actually print or share your business card, you must convert the .CW file to a standard format like PDF, JPG, or PNG. For game maps, players occasionally seek to extract world data into 3D models like OBJ for rendering, which often requires community-built parsers.
