Convert CTM to another file type
To convert your CTM file to another format, you need OpenCTM or other 3D software.
Convert a file to CTM
To convert other file formats to the "Compressed Mesh Format" file type, you need software like OpenCTM or a similar tool.
About CTM files
A .CTM file is primarily an OpenCTM (Open Compressed Triangle Mesh) file, a format designed to store 3D triangle meshes with extremely high compression ratios compared to standard formats like STL or PLY. These files are typically used when distinct 3D geometry needs to be transmitted quickly over the web or stored efficiently.
The main challenge users face with .CTM files is their lack of native support in popular 3D modeling suites like Blender or Autodesk Maya without specific plugins. Because the format prioritizes compression over editability, you often cannot simply double-click to view the model on Windows or macOS. Furthermore, web browsers do not render them natively without WebGL libraries. To edit or print these models, users should convert them to OBJ for universal compatibility, STL for 3D printing, or GLB for modern web viewing.
Note on other formats: If your file does not open in a 3D viewer, it is likely a recording file from the Citra Nintendo 3DS emulator. These are not video files but rather input logs; they cannot be converted to MP4 directly and must be played back within the emulator.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CTM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CTM file to STL, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, PLY or WRL, you can use OpenCTM or similar software from the "Compressed 3D Mesh Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to CTM, try OpenCTM or another comparable tool in the "Compressed 3D Mesh Storage" category.
The CTM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CTM converter.
