About CSE files

A .CSE file typically serves one of several highly specialized and proprietary purposes. It is most commonly found as a RightFax Cover Sheet Template used by OpenText enterprise fax solutions. Alternatively, it is a CompuSyn Experiment File containing drug combination and synergy analysis data, or a Cross-Stitch/Embroidery Design used by digitization software like Creative Stitch, Compucon EOS, or PCStitch. Less frequently, it functions as a Hy-Ten HASAS/ISAS reinforcement scheduling database.

The primary disadvantage of the .CSE format is its extreme fragmentation and closed nature. Opening these files requires specific legacy or niche software. They are not supported by web browsers, and standard online converters fail because they cannot guess which of the wildly different internal structures (ranging from UTF-16 text to Java serialization) a specific .CSE file uses. This makes the data essentially locked if you do not have the exact program that generated it.

Converting a .CSE file depends heavily on its origin. Embroidery .CSE files should be exported to more universal machine formats like DST or PES to ensure hardware compatibility, though some proprietary color mapping might be lost in translation. CompuSyn analysis data is best exported to CSV or XLSX for statistical review in Microsoft Excel or R. RightFax templates should be exported to PDF to preserve visual layout for universal viewing.

Because .CSE files are usually proprietary formats, conversion is incredibly difficult. Our engine can peek under the hood to see if your file is actually a standard ZIP-based Compucon archive, a plain UTF-16 LE text pattern, or an underlying JetDB database. If a supported embedded format is detected, viewing or extracting the content may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CSE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VTK, MOC and T2K files.

The CSE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CSE converter.
