A .CPO file is primarily a print layout document created by legacy Ulead Photo Express or Canon Creative Park Express. These files typically store greeting cards, paper crafts, and photo layouts intended for direct printing. Depending on the system, a .CPO file might also act as a fire alarm panel configuration for Advanced Connexion+, a 3D collision model in the game Carmageddon 2, or a compressed transport dataset in SAS.
The main challenge with .CPO files is their extreme software dependency. Files generated by Ulead Photo Express utilize a proprietary Microsoft Compound file structure that modern image editors like Adobe Photoshop cannot parse. Canon Creative Park similarly restricts its .CPO files to its own ecosystem, forcing users to print directly rather than share the digital file. This proprietary lock-in prevents sharing projects online, sending them via email, or viewing them on mobile browsers.
