About CLX files

The .CLX file extension is highly fragmented and serves completely different purposes depending on the software that created it. Most frequently, it acts as a compiled spell checker lexicon used by medical and legal spelling software like Spellex. In laboratory environments, it stores raw electrophoresis data generated by PerkinElmer LabChip devices. Other minor uses include motorsport calibration data for Magneti Marelli, standard dictionary files for Adobe Systems, and local clipboard history backups for the legacy ClipX utility. Because .CLX files are proprietary binary containers or compiled databases, they present severe disadvantages for everyday users. They cannot be natively opened by web browsers or standard text editors. They are essentially closed systems designed to be read exclusively by the specific software that generated them. Attempting to open a Spellex lexicon or LabChip data file in a generic text editor will typically display garbled, machine-readable text. Standard online converters universally fail to process them because there is no unified .CLX specification. If you need to access the data, your best conversion target is usually plain text (TXT) or a generic spreadsheet format (CSV or XLSX). However, because this file format is difficult to open or convert, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Standard online tools will reject these files. Despite this, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CLX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FMF, SLC and PTS files.

The CLX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CLX converter.
