Convert CHG to another file type
To convert CHG Data files to another format, you need CHARGE Structural Analysis or other Data software.
Convert a file to CHG
To convert other file formats to the "Structural Load File" file type, you need software like CHARGE Structural Analysis or a similar tool.
About CHG files
A .CHG file typically serves one of two distinct, often frustrating purposes: it is either a proprietary load data file used by CHARGE structural analysis software, or a legacy tracking file generated by older versions of Intuit Quicken.
In the context of structural engineering, these files contain critical load metrics and analysis parameters. The friction arises because this format is highly specific; without the original CHARGE software, the data is essentially a black box, inaccessible to standard CAD tools or Microsoft Excel. Users often need to convert these to CSV or XLSX to actually utilize the data in modern workflows, or to PDF for immutable project archiving.
Alternatively, if the file originated from financial activities, it may be a Quicken Online Data file. These are relics of discontinued online synchronization features, often leaving users with "orphaned" data that modern Quicken versions cannot natively import. A third, less complex possibility is that the file is simply a "Change Log" (text file) with a non-standard extension.
Best Conversion Targets:
For Data Recovery: Convert to CSV or TXT to strip proprietary formatting and view the raw alphanumeric data.
For Documentation: Convert to PDF to create a stable, viewable record of the file's contents without needing the original engineering software.
For Inspection: If it is a simple change log, opening it as a TXT file is the fastest solution.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CHG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CHG file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use CHARGE Structural Analysis or similar software from the "Structural Engineering Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to CHG, try CHARGE Structural Analysis or another comparable tool in the "Structural Engineering Data" category.
The CHG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CHG converter.
