About CFT files
The .cft file extension is highly fragmented and serves multiple unrelated purposes depending on the software that created it. It is primarily used as a music notation score by audio software like Finale or Personal Composer, or as a game data asset archive in titles like CrossFire and Grand Theft Auto V (managing RAGE engine vehicle fragments). Other diverse uses include legacy Corel CorelFLOW templates, Garmin compiled fonts, and EOS laser sintering component configurations.
Because the .cft extension is shared among entirely unrelated applications, it is notoriously frustrating for users to open. Standard operating systems cannot auto-detect the correct application. Formats like the CorelFLOW diagram rely on Microsoft Compound data structures and are completely abandoned, requiring obsolete software to view natively. Game data versions are typically encrypted or compressed, making direct editing impossible without reverse-engineering tools like OpenIV.
To actually use the data trapped inside a .cft file, conversion or extraction is mandatory. For music scores, convert .cft to PDF for printing, or MusicXML and MIDI for editing in modern audio workstations. For game modding, extract the archives into standard XML, OBJ, or PNG formats. For legacy flowcharts, convert to SVG or PDF to ensure long-term archiving.

The CFT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CFT converter.
