About CDE files
The .cde file extension is heavily fragmented and used by several completely unrelated software platforms. Most commonly, it acts as an Offline Interactive Experience Package generated by the Ceros content platform. These files contain HTML, CSS, and media assets bundled together using GZIP compression to allow users to view interactive presentations offline. Alternatively, .cde files are used as Compressed Data Exports in accounting software like Sage Ciel (using ZIP compression), as electrical circuit simulations in CADe SIMU, or as controller configurations in Eurotherm iTools.
The primary disadvantage of the .cde format is this extreme fragmentation. The operating system rarely knows which software to launch when double-clicking the file. Furthermore, proprietary accounting exports and simulation files often require expensive, niche software licenses to view the data. You cannot natively view the internal contents of these files in standard web browsers.
If you need to access the data inside a Ceros or Sage Ciel .cde file, the best solution is to extract the contents. You can convert or unpack it to standard archive formats like ZIP or GZ. For accounting data, converting the extracted data to XLSX or CSV for use in Microsoft Excel is highly recommended.

The CDE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CDE converter.
