Convert CASE to another file type
To convert CASE Case files to another format, you need EnCase Forensic or other Data software.
Convert a file to CASE
To convert other file formats to the "Forensic Evidence Container" file type, you need software like EnCase Forensic or a similar tool.
About CASE files
The .CASE extension is a classic example of file format ambiguity, shared by three distinct, high-stakes industries: digital forensics, engineering simulation, and legal case management.
Most frequently, a .CASE file is a Digital Forensic Evidence file created by EnCase Forensic software (now owned by OpenText). These are bit-stream images of seized storage devices used in criminal investigations. The main drawback here is accessibility; these files often require an expensive license to mount or view, and they are strictly proprietary to maintain chain of custody. Users often need to convert the report data to PDF or extract specific artifacts to standard formats like JPEG or DOCX for court presentation.
Alternatively, in the engineering sector, .CASE refers to an EnSight Gold case file used by Ansys EnSight for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) visualization. These files act as a pointer or metadata wrapper for complex geometry and variable files. The main constraint is that they are useless without the accompanying geometry/data files and require heavy workstation software to render. Engineers often convert the visualization results to MP4 video or PNG sequences for reports, or export 3D data to VTK or GLB for web viewing.
Less commonly, legal professionals encounter .CASE files from LexisNexis CaseMap. These are databases organizing facts and witnesses. The proprietary lock-in makes sharing difficult with clients who don't own the software, driving a need to convert case facts to XLSX (Excel) or PDF summaries.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CASE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CASE file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use EnCase Forensic or similar software from the "Forensic & Simulation Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to CASE, try EnCase Forensic or another comparable tool in the "Forensic & Simulation Data" category.
The CASE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CASE converter.
