Convert CASE to another file type
To convert CASE Case files to another format, you need OpenText EnCase or other Data software.
Convert a file to CASE
To convert other file formats to the "Forensic & Visualization File" file type, you need software like OpenText EnCase or a similar tool.
About CASE files
The .case file format serves multiple highly specialized professional industries. Most commonly, it is a Digital Forensic Evidence file created by OpenText EnCase, used by investigators to store disk images and crime scene data. It is also widely used as a Scientific Visualization file (EnSight Gold format) by Ansys EnSight to render 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models, and as a Video Surveillance file by Milestone XProtect. Finally, the legal sector uses it via LexisNexis CaseMap to store litigation databases.
These are complex, proprietary data containers. .case files from EnCase are heavily protected and strictly controlled to maintain the chain of custody. You cannot simply open them without expensive forensic software licenses. Similarly, Ansys EnSight files require heavy engineering software to process massive 3D simulation datasets. Sharing these files with clients or non-technical stakeholders is extremely difficult.
Because these files lack a universal structure, standard online converters fail to process them. If you need to share forensic reports, the data must be exported directly from the original software to standard formats like PDF or CSV. For 3D visualization, converting to OBJ or standard video formats requires the native Ansys application. Interestingly, LexisNexis CaseMap files are standard ZIP archives under the hood, meaning you can extract their internal documents using standard archive tools.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is fragmented across completely unrelated, closed software ecosystems. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, you can drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. We will identify the exact file signature, inspect the headers, and show internal text or metadata. If our analysis detects a supported underlying structure - like the ZIP format in CaseMap files - viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CASE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CASE file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use OpenText EnCase or similar software from the "Forensic Evidence & Data Visualization" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to CASE, try OpenText EnCase or another comparable tool in the "Forensic Evidence & Data Visualization" category.
The CASE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CASE converter.
