About CAMP files

The .camp file is a Color Appearance Model Profile utilized by the Windows Color System (WCS). It contains mathematical rules and parameters that map colors between varying input and output devices, ensuring color consistency under different ambient lighting conditions. It operates alongside Device Model Profiles and Gamut Mapping Profiles within the Windows architecture.

These files are native to Microsoft Windows. The primary disadvantage of the .camp format is its strict limitation to the Microsoft ecosystem. Unlike the universally accepted ICC or ICM color profiles, .camp files are not supported by web browsers, macOS, or industry-standard graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop. They are essentially proprietary configuration files that most generic graphic software cannot interpret or apply to images.

Users typically need to migrate or convert .camp data into standard ICC profiles for cross-platform workflows. Because .camp files use an XML structure, converting them to XML or TXT is the most reliable way to read and extract the raw color matrices.

This file format is notoriously difficult to convert because it is a mathematical instruction set rather than a standard image or document. Standard online converters fail to process it because they lack the WCS rendering engine. We can inspect the file, bypass the rendering limitations, and show the underlying XML content so you can extract the data you need.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CAMP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GMMP, CDMP and TXT files.

The CAMP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CAMP converter.
