About CAM files
A .cam file usually represents one of two very distinct formats: a legacy raster image captured by early Casio QV-series digital cameras, or a Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) data file used in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fabrication. In the electronics manufacturing industry, specialized EDA (Electronic Design Automation) software like DownStream Technologies CAM350, Altium Designer, and Ucamco UCAM use .cam files to store board layouts, Gerber data, and drill instructions. Less common uses include proprietary video formats like CCTV security feeds from HiSilicon DVRs, old MSN Messenger webcam recordings, and game asset archives for titles like Heroes of Might and Magic III.
Working directly with .cam files today is highly restrictive and often frustrating. For Casio camera owners, the proprietary image format is completely obsolete; it cannot be opened by modern web browsers, Windows Photos, or macOS Preview. For hardware engineers, PCB .cam files are heavily vendor-locked to the specific, expensive software that generated them (such as a $300+/month Altium subscription). This makes cross-platform collaboration, client reviews, and vendor submission extremely difficult unless the data is exported properly.
To view or share these files realistically, conversion is mandatory. For Casio images, convert to JPG or PNG for immediate web and mobile compatibility. For PCB manufacturing, it is highly recommended to convert proprietary .cam archives into standard GBR (Gerber RS-274X) or DXF (AutoCAD) files to ensure fabrication plants can actually read your layer data without errors. For simple visual sharing, convert the layout to a PDF. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing any software.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your CAM file.
If you want to convert CAM file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use DownStream CAM350 or similar software from the "Legacy Image & PCB Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to CAM, try DownStream CAM350 or another comparable tool in the "Legacy Image & PCB Data" category.
The CAM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CAM converter.
