About BVS files

The .BVS extension is predominantly associated with the Bon Voyage System (BVS), a premier voyage optimization platform developed by StormGeo (formerly AWT). These files function as digital voyage plans, encapsulating critical maritime data including waypoints (latitude/longitude), calculated courses, weather routing constraints, and estimated fuel consumption. The file structure is typically based on XML, allowing for structured data exchange between shipboard systems and shore-based operations centers.

A common problem for users is the specialized nature of the format. .BVS files are engineered strictly for professional maritime ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) and route planning software. They are not natively supported by standard consumer mapping tools like Google Maps or generic GPS devices. Attempting to open a .BVS file in a standard text editor may reveal raw XML tags, but interpreting the complex route logic without the proprietary StormGeo interface is difficult. Furthermore, stakeholders such as port agents or logistics coordinators often lack the expensive software licenses required to view these files, creating a barrier to simple information sharing.

To bridge this gap, converting .BVS files is the pragmatic solution. For visual presentation or route validation on accessible platforms like Google Earth, convert the file to KML or KMZ. To transfer the route data to generic GPS units or other navigation software, GPX is the ideal target format. For administrative purposes - such as filing voyage reports or sharing itineraries with non-technical staff - converting the route plan to PDF provides a universally accessible, read-only document. (Note: In rare cases, this file may be a saved game from BVS Solitaire Collection, which is incompatible with navigation converters.)

Convert.Guru analyzes your BVS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted HTML and XXP files.

The BVS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BVS converter.
