About BUM files
A .BUM file primarily stores proprietary 3D game models, animation rigs, or game data bundles. Game developers use this format to package character meshes, textures, and skeleton data into optimized, compressed assets for real-time rendering. These files are typically found in video games developed by Marvelous Inc., Bandai Namco, and CyberConnect2, or as data bundles in the Burnout Paradise series. Some variations are generated via the Unity game engine. The .BUM format is highly problematic for users outside of the original game engine. It is a closed, proprietary binary format. Standard 3D suites like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot import these files natively. Modders and data miners face significant hurdles reading the compressed mesh and animation data because there is no universal standard. Users looking to mod or render these assets need to convert .BUM to universal 3D formats like FBX, OBJ, or GLTF. Converting to OBJ preserves the base mesh and UV mapping, while FBX is strictly required if you want to retain animation rigs and skeletal weight data. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because the data structures change entirely depending on the game developer. Often, only specialized community-built extraction scripts or reverse-engineered plugins can parse the underlying mesh data. Just drag and drop your .BUM file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible on convert.guru. We can inspect the internal hexadecimal structure to identify the game engine, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

If you want to convert BUM file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL or PLY, you can use Unity or similar software from the "Game 3D Model Asset" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to BUM, try Unity or another comparable tool in the "Game 3D Model Asset" category.
The BUM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BUM converter.
