About BUC files

The .BUC file extension primarily serves two unrelated functions: a Samsung phone backup file or a BuddyCAD catalog database file. Samsung backups are created by device management tools like Samsung Smart Switch or the legacy Samsung Kies. These files securely store contacts, messages, and app data from Android devices. Conversely, BuddyCAD utilizes .BUC files to store engineering component catalogs using a standard SQLite database structure. Users often need to convert .BUC files because they are highly proprietary and restrictive. Samsung backups are closed containers that you cannot easily read on a PC without the original software or a compatible mobile device. They are designed for restoration, not accessibility. Similarly, BuddyCAD catalogs trap data inside specific engineering workflows, making cross-platform sharing difficult. For target formats, BuddyCAD users should look to convert the database to SQL, CSV, or DB to expose the raw tables. Be aware that you will lose CAD-specific graphical relationships and software-specific formatting. For Samsung backups, extraction targets are usually standard archives like ZIP, though internal files may still be encrypted.
