Extract text from LWL files
To convert your LWL file to another format, you need Loftware Label Manager or other Page Layout software.
To convert other file formats to the "Label Template" file type, you need software like Loftware Label Manager or a similar tool.
The .LWL extension typically refers to a Label Design File, but it suffers from significant ambiguity as it is used by two distinct, incompatible labeling ecosystems: Loftware (Enterprise) and Dymo (Consumer).
1. Loftware Label File: Created by Loftware Label Manager, these are industry-standard templates used in global supply chains for shipping and compliance labeling. They contain variable data fields, barcodes, and layout instructions. Constraints: These files are strictly proprietary. You cannot open them in standard image viewers or text editors. Viewing them requires the Loftware Print Server or specific designer software, making it difficult to share proofs with clients or vendors who lack the licensed software.
2. Dymo Label File (Legacy): Created by older versions (v7 and below) of Dymo Label Software. While Dymo printers are ubiquitous in offices, modern Dymo software (v8 or Dymo Connect) defaults to LABEL or .DYMO formats. Constraints: Users often find old .LWL archives that modern software refuses to open directly, effectively locking away address lists and custom designs.
Recommendation: To make these files accessible, the best practice is converting them to PDF for universal viewing, archiving, and approval. For use in web previews or digital catalogs, converting to PNG or JPG is ideal.
