About BSD files

A .bsd file is primarily a Boundary Scan Description Language (BSDL) file. It is used by hardware engineers to describe the testability features of integrated circuits that comply with the JTAG (IEEE 1149.1) standard. Because it is written in a strict subset of VHDL, the format is highly specialized. Opening these files usually requires heavy, expensive Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software like Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus. A major disadvantage of the .bsd format is that non-engineers cannot easily extract pinout data or register lengths without a dedicated BSDL compiler. To solve this, you can convert the text-based .bsd file into more accessible formats. For data analysis or database import, convert it to .CSV or .XML. For sharing with teams without EDA tools, convert it to a standard .TXT or .PDF document. Note that a small percentage of .bsd files are binary signal processing data or game sequence files for Thrillville, which cannot be converted to text.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BSD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BSDL, BDS, PSD, PDF, ZIP, V and XCI files.

FAQ

If you want to convert BSD file to SYS, DLL, EXE, DRV, VXD, 386, COM, BAT, CMD, SCR, PIF or LNK, you can use Xilinx Vivado or similar software from the "Boundary Scan Circuit Description" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert MSI, EXE, REG, MST, LNK, CAB, CAT, DRV, INF, SYS, MSU or DLL files to BSD, try Xilinx Vivado or another comparable tool in the "Boundary Scan Circuit Description" category.

The BSD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BSD converter.
