About BSB files
BSB file types are a type of raster image file created by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA). These files are used for storing and displaying digital nautical charts and are commonly used by the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and other maritime organizations. BSB files are usually accompanied by a companion file, called a KAP file, which contains the chart's georeferencing information.
BSB files can be converted to other image formats, such as JPEG, TIFF, and PNG, using software such as GDAL, ImageMagick, and GIMP. However, due to the complexity of the georeferencing information in the KAP file, conversion can be difficult and may require manual adjustments to the output image. Additionally, some of the features of the BSB file, such as the color palette and the chart's legend, may not be preserved in the converted image.
For these reasons, it is often easier and more reliable to use a free and easy online website such as Convert.Guru to convert BSB files. Convert.Guru provides a simple and straightforward way to convert BSB files to other image formats, while preserving the chart's georeferencing information and other features.
The BSB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began more than 25 years ago in California, when Tom Simondi published the most comprehensive database of file formats on his website. Before that, Tom had worked on Space Shuttle development at the Air Force Systems Command’s Space Division in Los Angeles. He is known as one of the top programmers of the late 1980s.
When Microsoft integrated Tom’s Filext database into Windows XP, it became the leading platform for analyzing and processing file types and formats.
Today, we use the latest technologies to analyze, process, and convert one of the world's largest collections of file formats. We are committed to developing the best BSB converter by continuously improving quality, usability, and reliability.
