A .BPDX file is a proprietary project archive created by Business Plan Pro (specifically versions 11 and 12), a legacy business planning application from Palo Alto Software. These files function as compressed containers that encapsulate the entire scope of a business plan, including the written narrative (Executive Summary, Market Analysis), financial projections, and embedded charts.
Technically, the .BPDX format is a renamed ZIP archive holding strictly structured XML data and often an embedded Microsoft Excel (.xls) component for calculations. The primary friction users encounter is the "locked box" problem: Business Plan Pro is older software, and opening these files on modern operating systems (especially macOS) or without a valid, paid license is difficult. Users frequently need to migrate this data into standard formats to edit the text in Microsoft Word or analyze the financials in Excel without relying on discontinued or inaccessible software.
