Extract text from Blowfish encrypted files (BFE)

The .BFE file extension is primarily used for Blowfish Encrypted Files created by the BFE encryption tool or software like Blowfish Advanced CS. It safely stores sensitive data using the Blowfish cipher. Less frequently, .BFE stands for Brainfuck Executable, a compiled program written in the esoteric Brainfuck programming language, or encrypted tape library logs from Oracle StorageTek.
Users often want to convert or open .BFE files because they are completely useless without the original software and the correct decryption password. Standard file viewers and operating systems cannot read them natively. Sending a .BFE file to a colleague usually results in frustration, as it requires installing outdated, specialized software just to see the contents.
