About AWS files
The .AWS file extension primarily identifies a spreadsheet created by Ability Office, a cost-effective alternative to Microsoft Office. These files store typical spreadsheet data including cells, formulas, charts, and macros, structured similarly to older Excel formats. While Ability Spreadsheet is functional for users within that specific ecosystem, the format presents significant friction for sharing and collaboration. Most standard spreadsheet applications, including modern versions of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, cannot natively open .AWS files without specific import filters or prior conversion. This proprietary lock-in often forces users to convert their data to standard formats like XLSX or CSV to ensure accessibility across different platforms and mobile devices. For archiving or strictly viewing data without formatting risks, converting to PDF is the most reliable workflow.
It is important to note that .AWS is an ambiguous extension. If your file does not open as a spreadsheet, it is likely a workspace file generated by Atmel AVR Studio (now part of Microchip Studio) or a User Profile storing interface settings for AutoCAD. These secondary formats are typically plain text or XML-based configuration files used to save project states or UI layouts and are generally not intended for conversion to document formats.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AWS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted AZW3, ARW, EPUB, MD, AZW, MOBI, ODT, DXF, PNT, IGES and PDF files.
The AWS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AWS converter.
