The .awk file extension primarily represents an AWK Script, a text-based program written for the AWK programming language. These files contain instructions used in Unix-like operating systems for text processing, data extraction, and reporting. They are edited using text editors like Vim or Notepad++. A secondary use for the .awk extension is the Avery Label Design file, an older proprietary format created by Avery Zweckform software. These files store templates, graphics, and text layouts for printing physical adhesive labels. They use the Microsoft Compound File Binary Format.
