About AVD files

The .AVD extension represents two completely different file types, creating significant confusion for users trying to open them.

1. MAGIX Video Information File (Most Common)

If you found this file on your computer alongside other videos, it is likely a metadata sidecar file created by MAGIX Movie Edit Pro (now Video deluxe). These files contain scene detection data, thumbnails, and audio waveform information automatically generated when a video is imported.

2. Proprietary CCTV/DVR Video (Security Recordings)

Less commonly, .AVD is a proprietary video format used by specific security systems, police cruiser dashcams, and digital video recorders (DVRs).

Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your AVD file.

Users also converted DAV, MP4, AAX, XML, TORRENT, OBB, KT and GRADLE files.

The AVD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AVD converter.
