The .ASG file extension primarily represents an Axapta Security Export file used by Microsoft Dynamics AX (formerly Axapta). In enterprise environments, these files store exported security user group rights, roles, and permissions, allowing administrators to backup or migrate security architectures between different server setups. Alternatively, .ASG files are used as Saved Game files for various PC video games, including Warlords Battlecry, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Age of Wonders 3, and Asphalt 9: Legends.
A major disadvantage of the .ASG format is its strictly closed, proprietary nature. Axapta security exports are heavily formatted for Microsoft's legacy database architecture and cannot be read natively by standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel without specialized enterprise tools. Similarly, .ASG game saves are closed binary formats unique to the game engine that created them. They require a paid copy of the game or a complex hex editor to manipulate, and they are notorious for becoming corrupted if manually edited without proper checksum calculations.
Because these are highly specialized binary files, standard online converters completely fail to process them. You cannot directly convert an Axapta security export to a standard CSV or PDF file, nor can you easily extract 3D assets or text from an Asphalt 9 save file.
