About ASB files
The .ASB file extension is used by several entirely different software applications, making it a highly fragmented format. Most commonly, it acts as a Game Action Script Binary (or ActionScript Bytecode) used in Nintendo game development. Alternatively, it serves as an accounting backup archive for AS-Bank software, a creature breeding library for the ARK Smart Breeding tool, or a database backup for enterprise systems like Aerospike.
Because the .ASB extension is shared across gaming, accounting, and database administration, users often struggle to open these files. The format lacks a standardized structure. The Nintendo and database variations are proprietary, closed binary files. They are typically locked to their native ecosystems. For example, you cannot easily parse an Absolute Database file without the specific Componentace database engine. This creates a severe vendor lock-in.
Standard online converters usually fail to process .ASB files because they cannot guess the underlying data structure. Most .ASB files cannot be converted into standard documents like PDF or images like JPG. However, there are practical workarounds. The AS-Bank backup is actually a disguised ZIP archive. The ARK Smart Breeding library is structured as plain-text JSON. For these specific variations, extracting the raw data or converting to standard text formats is highly effective.
This file format is difficult to open or convert globally because it is often compiled bytecode or a proprietary serialization. In most cases, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ASB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ASB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ASB converter.
