The .ARXML format is the standard exchange format for the AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) development partnership. These files contain hierarchically structured system descriptions used to configure automotive software, define ECU (Electronic Control Unit) interfaces, and map network signals. While .ARXML is technically text-based XML, the files are often massive, deeply nested, and governed by strict schemas that make them nearly impossible to interpret without specialized tooling like Vector DaVinci or dSPACE SystemDesk. Engineers often struggle with proprietary lock-in, as opening these files requires expensive licenses for industry-specific IDEs.
