Extract text from Allplan and Audacity files (APN)

The .APN file extension is primarily an Allplan Animation Path or "free project file" used by Nemetschek Allplan, a leading CAD and BIM software. These files function as comprehensive project archives, bundling 2D/3D BIM drawings, layers, attributes, and animation paths into a single proprietary container. Additionally, the .APN extension is occasionally associated with Audacity project files, where it stores detailed editing session data alongside standard audio files.
Users typically need to convert .APN files when sharing architectural designs with clients who do not use Allplan, or when migrating audio sessions to standard playback devices. The primary disadvantage of the .APN format is its heavily closed, proprietary nature. An Allplan .APN file easily exceeds hundreds of megabytes, requires an expensive commercial license to open, and cannot be viewed in standard web browsers or generic CAD viewers.
If you are dealing with an Allplan file, the best conversion targets are DWG or DXF for cross-platform CAD collaboration, or PDF for standard document viewing. However, exporting to these formats usually strips away complex BIM metadata and 3D properties. For Audacity files, exporting to MP3 or WAV is standard, though you lose the non-destructive editing history.
