Extract text from HotDocs answer files (ANX)
To convert ANX answer files to another format, you need HotDocs or other Data software.

.ANX files are predominantly HotDocs Answer Files created by HotDocs, an enterprise document automation platform widely used in the legal, insurance, and banking sectors. These files store user-provided data (the answers from an interactive interview questionnaire) in a structured XML format.
To properly use an .ANX file to generate a finished contract or form, you need the original HotDocs software and the associated template file (typically an HDT or DOCX). Secondary, less common uses for the .ANX extension include AWIPS Weather Data Product Archives from the National Weather Service and legacy Annodex Exchange Format media files.
The biggest disadvantage of the .ANX format is its strict dependency on external assets. By itself, an .ANX file is practically useless for generating a readable document because it contains only the raw data variables (e.g., names, dates, financial figures), completely lacking the formatting, boilerplate text, and layout instructions. Furthermore, accessing the full assembly process requires expensive proprietary software subscriptions.
Standard online converters fail to turn .ANX files into complete PDF or DOCX files because they do not possess the required proprietary templates. However, because HotDocs .ANX files are structured as XML, you can convert them to XML, TXT, or JSON to extract the raw text data.
