About HFD files

The .HFD file primarily functions as a HotDocs Form Document used by HotDocs document automation software. Legal professionals and enterprise users rely on these templates to automatically generate complex contracts and forms. In a different context, Apple iOS devices use .HFD files as a HealthKit Database File (often referred to as HealthDB) to store encrypted fitness and medical tracking data securely on an iPhone or iCloud.

Both versions of the .HFD file present significant accessibility challenges. HotDocs forms require a paid, proprietary subscription to open, edit, or execute the template logic. Users who receive an .HFD file without having the software installed cannot view the underlying text or form fields. Apple HealthKit files are highly encrypted SQLite databases designed strictly for system-level access, making manual data extraction extremely difficult outside the Apple ecosystem.

Users typically need to convert HotDocs .HFD files to PDF or DOCX to share static, readable contracts with clients who lack the specialized software. HealthKit files are often exported to CSV or XML to analyze heart rate, step count, and sleep data in Microsoft Excel or other analytics tools. Note that converting a HotDocs template to a standard document format strips away its automated logic, turning dynamic variables into static text.

Because .HFD is a closed, proprietary format in both use cases, standard online converters often fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can still identify the file format and inspect the file for extractable text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HFD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ANX, HCL and PUG files.
