About ALR files

The .ALR file extension serves several completely separate roles depending on the software environment. It is most commonly used as an HMI Alarm Log generated by ASEM HMI software and digital regulators from Mecc Alte S.p.A. Alternatively, it functions as an Emergency Alert System configuration file created by Comlabs, or as a heavy binary game resource archive found in video games like Fahrenheit (by Quantic Dream) and Resident Evil 4.

The major disadvantage of the .ALR format is its strictly proprietary nature. Industrial alarm logs lock critical machine failure data behind closed systems, though some variations rely on plain UTF-16 (LE) encoding. The game archive versions are massive, undocumented binary containers that combine models, textures, and scripts into a single unreadable block. You cannot natively browse these files in modern operating systems or standard web browsers without specialized viewers or modding utilities.

Users typically need to convert .ALR files to unlock their contents. For industrial applications, converting the log to a CSV or TXT file is essential for auditing equipment failures in Microsoft Excel. Gamers and developers usually want to unpack the game archives into standard ZIP files or extract raw assets like PNG images and WAV audio.

Because of the extreme fragmentation of this extension, standard online converters usually fail. Often, only the original proprietary software or specific community-built unpackers can properly read or export the data. Fortunately, convert.guru offers a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our deep-file inspection can identify the underlying structure, extract raw UTF-16 text from logs, and show internal contents, making viewing or partial conversion possible even for obscure formats.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ALR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted OUTPUT, USAGE and ERROR files.

The ALR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ALR converter.
