About AEF files
An .AEF file primarily functions as a Cisco Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX) application script. These files dictate the exact call-routing logic and automated menus used in enterprise VoIP phone systems. They are built on underlying Java technology. A secondary, but notable use (about 9% of files), is an archival data export generated by the Italian open-source software Archimista. In rare, legacy cases, it may be an Application Export File for the discontinued CA-Visual Objects database software.
The main disadvantage of .AEF files is their proprietary nature. Cisco scripts are highly closed systems. They require a live enterprise server or the heavy Cisco Unified CCX Editor to open, edit, or validate. Users outside of the telecom engineering department cannot easily read the call flow logic. Archimista files present a different annoying problem: they are simply standard compressed archives with a renamed extension. This needlessly breaks compatibility with standard operating systems and confuses researchers trying to view archival data.
Standard online converters fail to process .AEF files because they lack the ability to parse Cisco's specific Java-based structural elements. The best conversion target for a Cisco script is often TXT or JAVA to simply extract and read the hardcoded text prompts and basic routing logic. For Archimista files, the best target is ZIP so you can easily extract the internal XML data.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is meant for specific enterprise or archival silos. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AEF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert AEF file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use Cisco UCCX or similar software from the "Contact Center Routing Script" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The AEF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AEF converter.
