About ADR files
The .ADR file extension is a container for data that has effectively been abandoned by modern software standards. Its most frequent origin is the legacy version of the Opera web browser (versions 12 and older), where it served as a proprietary database for storing bookmarks, contacts, and browsing history. Unlike modern browsers that use standardized JSON or HTML for bookmarks, the Opera .ADR format is a structured text file that current browsers - including the modern Opera - cannot natively import. This can be a hassle for users attempting to migrate decade-old data to Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, as the file must first be converted into the standard Netscape Bookmark HTML format.
A secondary but critical use of this extension is in Intuit QuickBooks. Here, .ADR stands for "Auto Data Recovery." These are emergency backup files generated automatically by QuickBooks to prevent data loss in the event of a crash. However, you cannot simply double-click an ADR file to open it; it functions as a fail-safe that must be manually located and renamed to QBW to restore a company file. Finally, the extension is a relic of the PDA era, used by Lotus Organizer and Psion Series 3a devices for address books. For these legacy databases, the practical goal is to liberate the contact information locked inside by converting it to a universal CSV or vCard format for import into Microsoft Outlook or mobile devices.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ADR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted ARD, QBW, CDR, PDF, WAV, ABR, DOCX, PKG, JAR, TRACE and CSV files.
The ADR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ADR converter.
