Convert a file to ABX
To convert other file formats to the "Address Book Database" file type, you need software like Avery Design & Print or a similar tool.
About ABX files
The .abx file format is primarily used as an Address Book XML file by specialized label printing software, most notably Avery Design & Print and DYMO Label Software. These files act as internal databases to store structured contact information such as names, postal addresses, and phone numbers in an XML-based layout. Secondary uses for the .abx extension include older WordPerfect Address Books by Corel and Arabic e-book data files for Al-Kutuby software.
Users frequently need to convert .abx files because they are tightly locked into specific label-printing ecosystems. The main disadvantage of the format is its proprietary schema. While the underlying data is often XML, standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel cannot parse the specific layout correctly without manual mapping. Furthermore, you cannot easily sync an .abx file to a modern mobile phone, CRM, or cloud address book without exporting the data first.
For maximum compatibility, you should convert .abx files to CSV (Comma Separated Values) for spreadsheets or VCF (vCard) for importing into mobile and email clients. Be aware that converting these files to a standard contact format will strip away any print-specific layout metadata (like label dimensions).
Because the format relies on custom configurations meant only for the original label makers, standard online converters often fail to process them. Since most Avery and DYMO .abx files use plain text XML internally, our tool can often extract the raw contact data, allowing you to salvage the information even if you no longer have the original label software installed.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ABX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ABX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ABX converter.
