About AATREND files

The .aatrend file is an industrial process trend chart used primarily in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. It stores the configuration for viewing historical manufacturing data. These files are generated by industrial software like AVEVA Wonderware ArchestrA or ABB Ability Historian. Users often need to share these trend configurations with managers, external engineers, or compliance auditors. The major disadvantage of the .aatrend format is its strict dependency on proprietary host software. To view the actual plotted graph, you need a highly expensive, licensed industrial workstation connected to the historian database. Sending an .aatrend file to someone without this software is useless. Standard online converters fail to process .aatrend files because they only contain the XML configuration (such as tag names, colors, and time ranges), not the actual historical data points. The database connection is missing. To share the actual graph, you should export the view directly from the SCADA software to standard formats like PDF or JPG. If you need the raw data, export the trend to a CSV file. Because it is an industrial configuration file, third-party rendering is impossible.
