About AAM files
The .AAM extension represents two distinct, specialized file formats that often cause compatibility headaches. The most common modern usage (approx. 69%) is as an Apparel CAD pattern file, typically generated by industrial textile software like Gerber AccuMark or related AAM PatternMaker modules. These files contain vector-based 2D sewing patterns, grading rules, and marker data used in fashion manufacturing. Users often need to convert these proprietary CAD files because they are locked into expensive industrial ecosystems; you cannot simply open them in Adobe Illustrator or generic viewers. The practical goal is usually converting them to DXF (for cross-software compatibility), HPGL (for plotters), or PDF (for reviewing patterns without CAD software).
Alternatively, an .AAM file may be a legacy Authorware Map file created by the now-discontinued Macromedia Authorware (later acquired by Adobe). These files were used to package multimedia libraries and flowcharts for the Shockwave Web Player. Since Adobe officially discontinued Authorware in 2007, these files are effectively 'dead' data. Users encountering them today are typically trying to recover old eLearning assets, images, or scripts trapped inside the obsolete container. Direct conversion is difficult without a virtual machine running Windows XP and the original Authorware 7 executable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AAM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted RUL, BAK, ZIP, KIT, LPD and C2D files.
The AAM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AAM converter.
