Convert A2R to another file type
To convert your A2R file to another format, you need Agilent MicroLab or other Data software.
Convert a file to A2R
To convert other file formats to the "Spectroscopy Data Analysis" file type, you need software like Agilent MicroLab or a similar tool.
About A2R files
The .a2r file extension primarily represents proprietary spectroscopy data generated by Agilent Technologies MicroLab software, commonly used with handheld or benchtop FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectrometers. These files store raw interferograms, processed spectra, and method parameters required for chemical analysis.
Because the format is strictly proprietary to Agilent, users often face significant interoperability barriers; you cannot simply open an .a2r file in Microsoft Excel or standard text editors. This "vendor lock-in" complicates data sharing with researchers who lack specific Agilent licenses and hinders analysis in third-party tools like MATLAB or Python. To overcome this, the most practical solution is converting the data to CSV or ASP (ASCII Spectrum) for numerical analysis, or to .JCAMP-DX for standardized scientific archiving.
A secondary, distinct use of the .a2r extension is for high-fidelity floppy disk images created by the Applesauce disk controller. Unlike standard DSK or PO files, an Applesauce .a2r captures the raw magnetic flux transitions of an Apple II disk, preserving complex copy protection schemes. However, these files are large and not natively supported by all emulators. For general emulation, it is best to convert these into the WOZ (Wozniak) format, which balances accuracy with compatibility.
Convert.Guru analyzes your A2R file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert A2R file to DSK, TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN or LOG, you can use Agilent MicroLab or similar software from the "FTIR Spectrometer Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to A2R, try Agilent MicroLab or another comparable tool in the "FTIR Spectrometer Data" category.
The A2R Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our A2R converter.
