About A2R files
The .A2R file extension primarily acts as an FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared) spectrometer data file generated by Agilent Technologies hardware. In retro-computing communities, it is also known as an Apple II disk image file created by the Applesauce floppy drive controller. These files store either complex chemical spectrum readings or raw magnetic flux data from vintage floppy disks. Users open the spectrometer data using Agilent MicroLab, while the disk images require the Applesauce client software.
Users frequently need to convert these files because both are highly proprietary. The Agilent variant cannot be opened directly in spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel, restricting chemical data analysis to users with expensive software licenses. The Apple II variant contains raw magnetic flux transitions rather than standard sector data, making it incompatible with most standard Apple II emulators.
For spectrometer data, the best conversion targets are CSV for spreadsheet analysis or SPC for universal spectroscopy tools. For disk images, users should convert to WOZ, DSK, or NIB for emulator compatibility.
These formats are notoriously difficult to convert. They are closed, undocumented binary files. Standard online converters fail to process them because they lack the specific parsing logic for specialized scientific hardware or niche retro-imaging devices. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our tool can inspect the internal file structure and extract readable text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your A2R file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert A2R file to DSK, TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN or LOG, you can use Agilent MicroLab or similar software from the "Spectrometer Data & Disk Image" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to A2R, try Agilent MicroLab or another comparable tool in the "Spectrometer Data & Disk Image" category.
The A2R Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our A2R converter.
