About 8XG files
The .8XG file is a calculator program group file created for Texas Instruments graphing calculators, specifically the TI-83 series and TI-84 Plus families. It acts as a specialized archive that bundles multiple individual calculator files - such as programs, math lists, equations, and matrices - into a single payload container for easier backup and transfer.
To manage these files on a computer, users must rely on TI Connect CE or older legacy software like TI Connect. This official software acts as the required bridge between desktop operating systems and the proprietary hardware environment of the graphing calculator.
Managing .8XG files outside the calculator ecosystem is highly restricted. Because it is a proprietary bundle, standard desktop archive tools cannot open it. Users face serious disadvantages when they just want to read a specific bundled program or review mathematical logic without connecting a physical calculator. You cannot natively inspect the internal code or access the grouped data using common text editors or archive extractors.
To make the content usable on a PC, you must extract or convert the .8XG file into individual 8XP (program) or 8XV (variable) files. From there, these extracted files are often converted to standard TXT files to allow users to read and edit the raw calculator source code on a computer. Be aware that converting calculator-specific tokens to raw text may result in the loss of unique calculator formatting.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because its binary structure is tightly closed and designed exclusively for device memory injection. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific Texas Instruments parsing logic. Often, only the original TI software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects supported embedded code, viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your 8XG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert 8XG file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use TI Connect CE or similar software from the "Calculator Group Archive File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to 8XG, try TI Connect CE or another comparable tool in the "Calculator Group Archive File" category.
The 8XG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 8XG converter.
