A .4QR file is a proprietary report definition template created by 4D, a relational database management system. These files function as blueprints, storing the structural layout, calculations, and database queries required to generate a specific report.
A major disadvantage of the .4QR format is that it acts only as an empty template dependent on a connected 4DB database file. It does not contain the actual database records. Because of this architectural limitation, standard online converters cannot simply process a .4QR file into a spreadsheet or PDF. The file requires the proprietary 4D engine to execute the query, pull live data, and populate the report. The format is entirely closed and not supported by web browsers or generic document editors.
To successfully convert this format, you must open it within the native 4D environment. Using the 4D Quick Report editor, you can generate the report with live data and export the results to standard formats like HTML, TXT, or print it directly to a PDF. If you no longer have access to the original database, the file is practically useless for data extraction.
