About 3DA files

A .3DA file is primarily a marching band drill animation data file used by Pyware 3D software to map out formations, steps, and movements on a field. A secondary, but common use case, is as a 3D model assembly file created by Delcam ArtCAM (now part of Autodesk) or 3D-Coat. These files store 3D actor data, spatial positioning, and compound object assemblies based on the Microsoft Compound file architecture.

The .3DA format is highly proprietary and restrictive. Opening Pyware drill files requires an expensive, niche license. Sharing these drills with students or band members is difficult because web browsers, smartphones, and standard media players cannot read them natively. Similarly, ArtCAM assembly files rely on outdated or highly specific 3D CAD environments and cannot be easily imported into modern 3D software like Blender or Maya without conversion.

To share marching band drill animations for easy viewing, convert .3DA to standard video formats like MP4 or MOV. For 3D assembly models, convert to universal formats like OBJ, STL, or GLTF for 3D printing and web integration. Drag and drop your .3DA file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your 3DA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RLF, SLDASM, PLY, ZTL and SCW files.

The 3DA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 3DA converter.
