Convert ZARGO to another file type
To convert ZARGO projects to another format, you need ArgoUML or other Developer software.
Convert a file to ZARGO
To convert other file formats to the "UML Modeling File" file type, you need software like ArgoUML or a similar tool.
About ZARGO files
.zargo files are Unified Modeling Language (UML) project files created by the open-source ArgoUML modeling tool. They are used to store software engineering diagrams, classes, statecharts, and use cases. The primary disadvantage of this format is that ArgoUML is effectively abandonware; its last stable release was in 2011. Running the software today requires outdated Java Runtime Environments, making .zargo files highly impractical and prone to compatibility issues on modern operating systems.
Structurally, a .zargo file is a standard ZIP archive wrapper containing several XML-based files. Inside, you will typically find an XMI (XML Metadata Interchange) file containing the structural UML model, alongside .PGML files that dictate the visual layout of the diagrams. Because this is a complex, discontinued project format rather than a flat document, standard online converters completely fail to process it into a PDF or JPG.
To salvage your work, the best conversion target is a standard ZIP file. By extracting the archive, you can isolate the inner XMI file and import it into modern, supported UML applications like Eclipse Papyrus or Enterprise Architect. Note that while the model structure will transfer, the proprietary PGML visual layouts are often lost. Since it is a closed, proprietary structure, traditional conversion tools cannot read it.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZARGO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted PNG, MAT, PGML, ARGO and LZ files.

The ZARGO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZARGO converter.
